City-Wide Clean-Up Project
The city of Forrest City has designated the month of May
for a major city-wide clean-up project. Mayor Larry Bryant is asking
for the public’s help in the clean-up effort. The clean-up schedule is:
--Ward 3 (completed!)
--Ward 2 (completed!)
--Ward 4 (completed!)
--Ward 1 (week of May 23).
Registration for summer and fall classes continues at East Arkansas Community College. Regular advising and registration for Summer I term is May 23 - May 27 (5/23 – 5/26 from 8:00– 7:00 and 5/27 from 8:00–noon). Summer I term classes begin on Tuesday, May 31. EACC will be closed on Monday, May 30, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Summer and Fall 2016 class schedules are available online at www.eacc.edu. The Fellowship Community Church and the city of Forrest City will be hosting a community job fair on Tuesday, May 24, from 10:00-2:00, at the Forrest City Civic Center. There will be on-site computers for online job applications, and assistance with resumes will be available.

Brinkley Blood Drive
There will be a blood drive at the First United Methodist Church in Brinkley, 409 W. Ash Street, on Thursday, May 26, from 1-6 p.m., in memory of Jane Oltmann.
The Fire Department in Marianna will be hosting a fundraiser on Friday, May 27. They will be BBQing up ribs, chicken and Boston butts for people to pick up. To order some or for more information you can call 295-5252.

Forrest City Little Theatre Program and Broadway Play Publishing will be presenting The Complete History of America (Abridged) on May 27 & 28, in the Pettus Hall, at Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church. The event will start at 7 p.m. nightly with an $8 admission. Note: Some humor may not be suitable for children.
STEM 5K Run & 1-Mile Fun Walk
There will be a 5k and 1-Mile Fun Walk in Forrest City starting at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, at the Forrest City Chamber of Commerce. The cost to register for this event is $25. There are three ways to register: online at www.4kstaylor.org; pick up a packet between 10:00 and 6:00 on Friday, May 27, from the Larry Bryant Multipurpose Center; or pick up a package before 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, at the Forrest City Chamber or Commerce. The Mississippi River State Park will be offering a Kayaking Test Drive on Saturday, May 28, from 10 to noon. This is for beginners who aren't quite sure about kayaking. The cost for the guided tour is $12 per person and it is non-refundable. For more information you can call 295-4040.

UAMS East and Helena Health Foundation will be sponsoring a Men's Day on Tuesday, May 31, from 10:00-2:00, located at the Wellness Center in Helena, AR. Summer Feeding Program
Forrest City School District is participating in the Summer Food Service Program that will provide meals for children 18 and under. Food will be served on a first-come, first-served basis. They will be serving breakfast from 7:30-9:30 a.m. and lunch from 11:30-1:00, June 2-29, at the following locations: Stewart Elementary, Forrest City Junior High and Forrest City High School.
Senior Health Day
UAMS East and Helena Health Foundation will be sponsoring a Senior Health Day on Friday, June 3, from 11:00-1:00, at the UAMS East Auditorium. They will be doing regular health screens, giving information out about Alzheimer's and much more. You will need to call and reserve your spot, since seating is limited. Pre-Father's Day Dance
There will be a Pre-Father's Day Dance on Friday, June 3, starting at 9 p.m., at the Marian Anderson Community Center in Brinkley. There will be a $5 admission fee.
Women's Health Day

Mission Trip Fundraiser
First Baptist Church in Forrest City will be hosting a Rummage Sale on Saturday, June 4, beginning at 6:00 a.m., located in parking lot of Classic Flowers in Forrest City. There will also be BBQ, hot dogs and baked goods for sale. All proceeds will go to expenses for the Mission Team's trip to South America. 5K & Kids Fun Run
UAMS East and Helena Health Foundation will be sponsoring a 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run on Saturday, June 4, located at the Wellness Center in Helena, AR. The 5K will begin at 9 a.m. and the Kids Fun Run will start at 10 a.m. The cost to register for the 5K is $20 if registered before Tuesday, May 24, and $25 after. The Now Faith Media will be hosting a special showing of the movie Time Changer Sunday, June 5, at 4 p.m., at Broadway Cinema, in Forrest City. The movie is a faith-based science fiction movie about time travel. Tickets are $10 and available at www.nowfaithmedia.com, where you can also watch the movie trailer.
ACT Prep Course
June 6 - 9, 2016
East Arkansas Community College is offering an ACT Prep Course Monday through Thursday, June 6 - 9. The ACT test date is June 11 (registration deadline for the test was May 6). Certified instructors from Sylvan Learning will teach a plan to help students prepare for the standardized exam, with comprehensive content review for each of the four required tests--English, math, reading, and science. Delta Ducky Derby Gala
The 2nd Annual Delta Ducky Derby will host a Gala on Friday, June 10, starting at 6:45 p.m., at the PCCUA Fine Arts Center. There will be food, a cash bar and entertainment provided by G3. Tickets are $150 per couple. The Golden Duck Award will be given for the most uniquely-dressed duck.
2nd Delta Ducky Derby
The Humane Society of the Delta is presenting the 2nd Annual Delta Ducky Derby on Saturday, June 11, with activities starting at 9 a.m. This event will be located at the Helena Riverpark Boardwalk. There will be plenty of food and games, including the 10-person canoe races. There will be cash prizes awarded. All proceeds go to the benefit of the Humane Society

6th Annual EACC Golf Tournament
East Arkansas Community College will be hosting the 6th Annual EACC Golf Tournament at the Forrest City Country Club on Monday, June 13. The tournament will be a four-person scramble with teams put into different flights. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three places in each flight. A lunch will be served to all participants at 11:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Single entries cost $100 or a team for $400. Mental Health Workshops

EACC is partnering with Mid-South Health Systems to present two Mental Health First Aid USA Workshops. The first session will be on Tuesday, June 14, from 8:00 - 5:00 at the EACC Wynne Campus; the second one will be held at the Forrest City campus on Tuesday, June 28, from 8:00 - 5:00. The Wizard of Oz

7th Annual Children's Theater Camp
The 7th Annual Children's Theater Camp is scheduled for July 11-15. This is a part of EACC's Department of Continuing Education. This program is for children from 1st-12th grade. There will be a public performance of Peas & Harmony: The Princess & The Pea (Remixed) on the main stage in the Fine Arts Center, starting at 6 p.m., on Friday, July 15, the last day of camp.
