Spring Break at the Park

Village Creek State Park will offer multiple programs, games and hikes for kids and families the week of March 21-25, for Spring Break. Then on Saturday, March 25, from 1:00-3:00 p.m., there will be a Kids Campfire Cooking program.  There is a $3 fee, and this is designed for children six and older. Lego Drop-In Day

Mississippi River State Park Hikes

March 24 and April 9

 Mississippi River State Park will be hosting several hikes. The schedule is as follows:
--Children's Bird Walk Adventure Hike will be on Friday, March 24, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Participants will meet at the Storm Creek Day Use area. Participants will be looking for all types of native birds.
--Spring Wildflower Hike will be on Sunday, April 9, from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Participants will meet at the Bear Creek Lake Day Use Parking Lot. This is a one-mile hike.
All hikes will be led by a park interpreter. There is no charge for these events and registration is not required. Please dress for weather conditions and have on proper shoes, such as tennis shoes or hiking boots. For more information call 870-295-4040.

Village Creek State Park Hikes

March 24 and 26

Village Creek State Park is offering several hikes this month. The schedule is as follows:
--Trail of Tears Hike will be on Friday, March 24, from 10:00-11:00.Participants will meet at the Lake Austell Boat Launch. This is a 2.16 mile hike.
--Discovering Plants Hike will be on Sunday, March 26, from 8:30-9:30 on the Big Ben Trailhead. Participants will learn all about plants that grow in the wild and which ones are safe (or not safe) to touch.
All hikes will be led by a park interpreter. There is no charge for these events and registration is not required. Please dress for weather conditions and have on proper shoes, such as tennis shoes or hiking boots. For more information call 870-238-9406.

Youth Baseball and Softball Registration

Kayak Tours

Mississippi River State Park will host several kayaking tours. The schedule is as follows:
--On Sunday, April 2, from 3:00-4:30 p.m. at Horner Neck Lake.
--A Full-Moon Tour will be given on Saturday, April 8, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Bear Creek Swim Beach.

Dairy Food Contest

4/3/17

SFC 4-H will host a Dairy Food Contest on Monday, April 3, at 5:30 p.m. at Woodruff Electric in Forrest City. This is for children ages 9-19. To enter the contest, you must bring a prepared entree or party dish that was made with real dairy products. Cool Whip does not count. You also must bring two copies of the recipe used. There will be a winner in each group (entree and party dish), and the winners will advance to the state competition in Little Rock. For more information call 870-261-1730.

FCMC Offers Diabetes Lunch-n-Learn

Forrest City Medical Center will host a free Diabetes Education Lunch-n-Learn on Tuesday, April 4.   This program will be presented by Diabetes Educator Trish Thielemier and will provide the information and tools needed to manage diabetes and live a healthier lifestyle.   The program will be held in the Forrest City Medical Center In-Service Classroom on Tuesday, April 4, from noon until 1:30 pm. Only a limited number of spaces are available. Miss St. Francis County Rice 2017

The Miss St. Francis County Rice 2017 Competition will take place on Thursday, April 6, at 5:30 p.m. at SFCo. Farm Bureau in Forrest City. Participants must present a rice dish, give a speech about what it means to be Miss SFCo. Rice, and share the ways they plan to promote rice in the Delta. To be eligible, girls must live in St. Francis County and be from 16 to 19 years old (those who will turn 16 in 2017 are included in this group).  Applications must be turned in by Wednesday, April 5. Wound Care Lunch-N-Learn

Forrest City Medical Center will have a Lunch-N-Learn program on Thursday, April 6, at noon at the In-Service Classroom. They will be discussing wound care and the things surrounding it such as: why some wounds won't heal, treatment options, who is at risk for non-healing wounds and how to prevent it. Youth BBQ Contest

SFC 4-H will host a BBQ Contest on Saturday, April 8, at 10:00 a.m. in the SFC Museum parking lot. This is for children ages 9-19. Poultry and a meat thermometer will be provided; contestants must provide everything else they need to compete (your own grill, sauce, charcoal, lighter fluid).  The contest will have a 30-minute prep time and an hour-and-a-half cook time. Farm Bureau Scholarship

Farm Bureau in St. Francis County is now accepting applications for its yearly scholarship ($1,000 for one year). To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following requirements:
--Be a member of the St. Francis County Farm Bureau or the child of a membership family.
--Be a high school graduate with a cumulative grade point of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 point scale.
--Be enrolled or have accepted enrollment as a full-time undergraduate student (taking at least 12 college level hours).
--Be of good moral character.

Ride the Ridge Poker Run

Junior Auxiliary of Forrest City and Special Olympics will host the Ride the Ridge Poker Run on Saturday, April 15. This is a whole-day event. People who participate in the Poker Run will need to register in the parking lot at Stage that morning from 8:00-noon. The first bike will be released at 10:00 a.m. and the last at noon. The cost is $25 per bike and $15 per rider. Concluding events will begin around 3:00 p.m. at Central AR Turbines: crawfish and Boston Butts will be available for purchase; a live auction starts at 3:15 p.m.; and music will be provided by Live Wire, The Headliners and The Jukebox Zeros. Nature Inspired Photography Workshop

Mississippi River State Park will host a Nature Inspired Photography Workshop on Saturday, April 15, from 10:00-6:00 at the Lee County Visitors Center. In this workshop participants will learn basic techniques such as: composition, aperture/shutter selection, camera modes, in-camera flash/metering, panning, subject/location selection, and it will also include a critique so you can see what works and what does not work. Junior Auxiliary Week is scheduled for April 17-20 this year. Events include:
--Monday, April 17, the mayor gives a proclamation announcing JA Week.
--Tuesday, April 18, JA members will pass out popsicles to the 4th graders at Stewart Elementary.
--Wednesday, April 19, JA members will read to different 1st grade classes at Central Elementary.

7th Annual EACC Golf Tournament

EACC will host their 7th Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, June 12, with lunch at 11:30 am. and a shot-gun start at 1:00 p.m. at Forrest City Country Club. Youth Art Competition

The Delta Cultural Center is taking entries for the annual Blues Heritage Youth Art Competition. Students are encouraged to enter their art work that goes along with this year's theme "Old Time Blues." Requirements are as follows:
--Must be in Elementary, Middle or High School
--Any art medium is acceptable
--Must be standard poster size, with a minimum size of 22" x 14"
Winners will be announced at the King Biscuit Blues Festival on Tuesday, October 3, and the art pieces will be put on display at the Delta Cultural Center's Depot throughout the month of October. Winners will also receive cash prizes, and their work will be made into full-color posters and postcards to be distributed state-wide. For more information call 870-338-4350.
