Flu Shots at Area Schools/College

The St. Francis County Health Department will begin giving flu shots at area schools next week. A mass flu shot clinic for the public will be held on October 30th.   Health Department Spokesperson Tracy Matthews has more details (click here to listen). Breast Cancer Honorariums & Memorials

All of October 2015

Forrest City Medical Center will have a fundraiser throughout October 2015 to honor breast cancer survivors and remember those who lost their battle with breast cancer.  White Christmas trees will be placed in the hospital lobby for decoration--pink ornaments are available to celebrate the survivors, and silver ornaments will honor those who lost their lives.  All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.  For more information, call Janet Benson at 870-261-0444.  (See also the Celebration planned for Oct. 22, below.)

Report to the Public


Forrest City High School will give its annual Report to the Public on Tuesday, October 13th, at 5 p.m. It will be held in the Forrest City High School lecture auditorium. For more information you can call the High School at 633-1464.

Forrest City Blood Drive


The blood mobile will be at Forrest City Medical Center on Tuesday, October 13th, from 11-3 p.m., in the upper parking lot. For more information you can call Janet Benson at 261-0444.

Cinderella at the Orpheum


Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella will be at the Orpheum in Memphis from October 13th-18th, with several show times. The shows Tuesday-Thursday start at 7:30, Friday starts at 8 p.m., and there will be two showings on both Saturday and Sunday. The times for Saturday are 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and times on Sunday are 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now, ranging from $25-$125. Marianna Blood Drive


There will be a blood drive at the First Baptist Church, 47 West Main St., in Marianna from 2-6 p.m.on Thursday, October 15.

CCS Fall Fundraiser


Calvary Christian School will have its annual Fall Fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 11:00 to 7:00 at the high school campus.  Scheduled events include a fish fry, crafts, a bake sale, and a carnival for the kids from 11:00 to 4:00.  Tickets for the meal are $8, which includes fried fish and the trimmings, plus drink.  Money raised will support the school.

L'Anguille River Festival


The annual L'Anguille River Festival will be in Palestine on Saturday, October 17th, with lots of activities for all ages. The 5K River run/walk will begin at 8 a.m., they will meet at the Palestine-Wheatley High School Parking Lot and entry fee is $20. There will also be a BBQ cook-off, bingo, door prizes, pageants, live music, a raffle, silent auction and much more. For more information you can call Palestine City Hall at 581-2585.

Men's and Women's Conference

Before Baby Classes


Forrest City Medical Center is now offering Before the Baby Comes classes on every other Tuesday and every third Saturday of each month. The Saturday classes will start on Saturday, October 17th, from 10-4 p.m. and Tuesday classes will begin on Tuesday, October 20th, from 3:30-6:30 p.m. For more information you can call 261-0299.

FC Class of '70 Reunion


Forrest City's high school Class of 1970 will have its 45th reunion starting at 5:30 on Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Campbell House, 305 N. Forrest Street.

Fargo Fall Fest


Fargo will host their Fall Fest on Saturday, October 17th, from 10-4 p.m. at the Community Center. There will plenty of food and games. Booth rentals are still available; if you are interested in a space or you would like to order a whole Boston butt (by October 10th) please call 734-2442.

Free Computer Class


Cross County Library is offering a free class in Computer/Internet Basics on Monday, Oct. 19th at 9:30.  The class is limited to nine participants--call 238-3850 ext. 3 to get your name on the list.  The library also offers free computer use....all you need is a library card.  If you haven't got a library card yet, bring valid photo ID, proof of address, and a reference name and number.

Breast Cancer Survivor Celebration


Forrest City Medical Center will honor all area breast cancer survivors in a special event planned for Thursday, Oct. 22.  The event will be held from noon to 2:00 in the hospital's main lobby, with a balloon release at 1:00 in memory of those who lost their lives to breast cancer.  There is no cost to attend this event, but advance registration is requested--to know how many to plan for, and to get the names of attending breast cancer survivors for proper recognition and celebration.  For more information or to register, call Janet Benson at 970-261-0444.  You can also register online here.

Forrest City Homecoming Parade


The Forrest City School District will host the annual Homecoming Parade on Thursday, October 22nd, at 6 p.m. It will begin at the Civic Center and end at Mustang Arena. Afterwards there will be a community pep rally. Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to be involved and to also participate in the decorating contest the week of Homecoming (October 19-23). Let's Spread Mustang Pride. Golf Cart Safaris at Village Creek


Village Creek State Park has a Golf Cart Safari scheduled for October 23.  Join the park interpreters to discover what comes out when the golfers go home.  There will be a fee of $10 per person.  The safari will start at 7 p.m.  Space is limited and reservations are required.  For more information or to make reservations, call Village Creek State Park at (870) 238-9406.

JAFC Skeet Shoot


Junior Auxiliary of Forrest City is hosting a Skeet Shoot Oct. 24 out by the FC Airport--if you register by Oct. 10 you'll get a shirt on the day of the event.  Shooter tickets are $60, and non-shooter tickets are $30.  On-site registration will be from 3:00 to 4:00, the Shoot will be 4:00 to 6:00, the BBQ chowdown starts at 6:00, and Deep South will be performing at 8:00.  Prizes include a gun or two, a Yeti cooler, some DU prints, and more.  To register or buy tickets, see any JAFC member.

The All Veterans Empowerment Services, Inc., will be hosting their third annual banquet on Saturday, October 24th, at the Forrest City Civic Center from 7 p.m. until midnight.

Levon Helm Down Home Jubilee


A fundraising concert will be held to restore Levon Helm's boyhood home in Marvell, Arkansas, on October 24th. The event will be held at Marvell's city baseball field.  Gates open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Admission is free. There will be plenty of food and drinks, along with music. Regional Career/Job Expo


The Eastern Arkansas Regional Career & Job Expo is scheduled for Tuesday, October 27, from 10:00 to 2:00, at the EACC Fine Arts Center.  This event is intended to inform communities of potential careers, employment, and training opportunities available in the region and to promote businesses and industry in these areas.  Admission to this event is free.

Pre-Halloween Costume Ball


The Marian Anderson Commission will host a pre-Halloween costume ball on Friday, October 30th, at 9 p.m. at the Marian Anderson Community Center. Tickets are $5 and there will be a door prize.

Forrest City Reunion--Class of 1980

10/30 & 31/15

The 35th annual reunion for the Forrest City Class of 1980 is scheduled for the weekend of October 30th & 31st. On Friday there will be a meet & greet at 7 p.m. located at 2550 N. Washington St. in Forrest City. Then on Saturday there will be a picnic at 1 p.m. for the same location and a dinner with a DJ at the Forrest City Civic Center starting at 7 p.m. For more information you can call Billy Logan at 901-406-2295.

Forrest City Fall Festival


The FCA United in Forrest City is hosting the Forrest City Fall Festival at Hicky Field on Saturday, October 31st. This a free event that will be from 2-6 p.m. with a Trunk or Treat at 4 p.m. There will be music, arts & crafts, a petting zoo, costume contest, train rides and much more. They are still looking for vendors and anyone who is wanting to register to hand out candy at the Trunk or Treat, if that is you please call LaSandra Bean at 945-9202. Ridgewood Fall Festival


Ridgewood Baptist Church, Highway 1 North in Forrest City, will sponsor a Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., featuring food, games, hay rides, and more.  They will also have a bloodmobile there for blood donations from 4:00 to 8:00.

FC After-School Program

through May 6, 2016

The Save-the-Children/21st CCLC after-school program continues every weekday (Monday-Friday) through May 6, 2016, from 3:40 to 5:40.  This program is for second- through fifth-grade students.  It offers support in literacy and math, physical activity and healthy nutrition, and fun enrichment activities.  Transportation is provided within FC city limits.  For more info, call 633-7129 or 633-3248.

ABE/GED Classes At C.R.T.I.

Registration through December 2015

Crowley’s Ridge Technical Institute ABE/GED classes in Forrest City are now underway.   There is no charge for the classes.  Weekday classes meet Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Night classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.    The instructors are Betty Keysacker and Tambrey Carnes.  GED satellite classes are also held in Marianna, Wynne, Brinkley and Clarendon.  Students must provide an Arkansas Photo ID and Social Security card to register.    For more information, go to CRTI's website, or call 870-633-5411 or 800-842-2317.

Marianna/Lee Co. Chamber Banquet


The Marianna/Lee County Chamber of Commerce Banquet will be held Thursday, November 5, at Marianna's Civic Center.  A silent auction will also be held at the banquet.  Cajun Express will be catering this event.  Tickets are $20.  Call the Chamber at 870-295-2469 for more information.

JA Angel Tree

The Junior Auxiliary of Forrest City is again sponsoring the Angel Tree to provide clothing and toys for area children at Christmas.  The tree will be set up at the Campbell House.  Go by any day Monday, Nov. 9, through Friday, Nov. 13, and get a card.  The card will have a list of needs for a specific child--you can shop or provide a cash donation of $20 or more to receive one of the angel ornaments.  The Campbell House will be open that week from 11:00 to 1:00 and again from 4:00 to 6:00.  If you can't get by during the week, you can write to PO Box 1340 in FC--they'll mail you a card.

Junie B. Jones Musical


The EACC Fine Arts Center will host the Junie B. Jones Musical. This event will be held Tuesday, November 10th, at 10 a.m. and it is recommended for children in Pre K- 4th grades. For more information you can contact the college at 633-4480 or visit their website

City League Basketball Registration

Deadline is December 5th

Registration for City League Basketball for Forrest City's youth ages 5-17 will be every Tuesday and Thursday until Saturday, December 5th. You can register your child at the Larry S.
