Collecting Family Histories

The St. Francis County Historical Society is collecting family histories and family stories to be published in the book The Family Histories of St. Francis County: Preserving the Past for Future Generations. All submissions are welcome. To pick up submission information and guidelines, you can stop by the Forrest City Public Library or St. Francis County Museum.

Library Drop-In Days

6/22 & 27/17

Forrest City Public Library will host a couple of drop-in days as part of the Summer Reading Program. A Magnet drop-in day will be held on Thursday, June 22, and a Lego drop-in day will be held on Tuesday, June 27. Both events will be all-day events. For more information call 870-633-5646.

Ridgecrest Golf Tournaments

 June 24 & 25, July 15, and August 5 & 6

The 2017 Golf Tournament Schedule for Ridgecrest Country Club:
--The weekend of June 24 &25 will be the Club Championship.
--Saturday, July 15, will be the Jacob Fitzhugh Memorial Two- Man Tournament. This tournament features three different formats: nine-hole scramble, nine-hole four-ball and nine-hole alternate shot.
--The weekend of August 5 & 6 will be the Al Burkhart Three-Man Scramble.

Radio Club Field Day

6/24-25/17

The St. Francis County Amateur Radio Club will have its annual field day from noon on Saturday, June 24, until noon on Sunday, June 25. Ham radio operators will try to make as many contacts as they possibly can in that 24-hour period. This helps for when disaster strikes, so people can get word out and get help, as these stations are temporary and won't be affected in the same way other radio systems will. Prosperity M.B. Church will host their Annual Choir Day on Sunday, June 25, at 2:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Evangelist Perlean Barnes of New Covenant.

"All 4 Allison" Ride for Life

The Organ & Tissue Donation Awareness Ride for Life will be Sunday, June 25, at Memorial Park in Memphis. This year the "All 4 Allison" team from Forrest City  will be entered. Basketball Camp

EACC will host a Basketball Camp at the college gym June 26-28, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. for students entering 1st-3rd grade, and from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. for students entering 4th-6th grade. Fee is $69. For more information call 870-633-4480, ext. 333.

Grief Support Group

SFCo. Museum Children's Program

The St. Francis County Museum will have Children's Programs every Wednesday until July 26. The schedule of programs is as follows:
--On Wednesday, June 28, the kids will learn about Our First American Indians, and they will be making dream catchers.
--There will be pioneer games on Wednesday, July 5, where children can play with toys from the 1800s.
--On Wednesday, July 12, they will be learning about Children & The Civil War.
--There will be a movie day on Wednesday, July 19. The featured film will be The Ice Age: Time of the Mastodons.
--On Wednesday, July 26, all participants will get to experience what shopping was like in the 1930s with the Five & Dime program.
All programs will be from 11:00 a.m. until noon. These programs are for preschoolers to 12-year-olds, and they must be accompanied by an adult. For more information call 870-261-1744.

Driver's License Class

Each Thursday

Classes for an Arkansas Driver's License are held each Thursday at the Lee Co. Courthouse. The driving portion is at 9 a.m., and the written exam is given at 1:00 p.m.

Crafting at the Library

Forrest City Public Library will teach children how to make a few things as part of the Summer Reading Program. Children can come visit the library to learn how to make key chains on Thursday, June 29, bookmarks on Tuesday, July 11, and Perler Art on Thursday, July 20. (In Perler art, the artist uses colored beads to create an image.)   All programs will be all-day drop-in events. For more information call 870-633-5646.

Memorial Bass Tournament

The 1st Annual Ridge Clark Memorial Bass Tournament at Burnt Cane "Nine-Mile" Lake has been rescheduled to Saturday, July 1. Boats will launch at safe light, and fishing ends at 1:00 p.m. Entry fee is $100 with 70% going to the Clark family. There will also be a $5 Big Bass side pot and $5 Trash Fish pot. For more information call Michael Lucas at 870-317-0237.

Tabitha's Closet

Free Mulch

Forrest City Landfill will be giving away mulch on Saturday, July 1, from 8:00-noon. Free mulch is given away the first Saturday of every month, weather permitting.

Marvell Fireworks

Marvell Baseball Association & Marvell Civic Club will be sponsoring a Firework Celebration on Tuesday, July 4, at 8:45 p.m. at the Marvell baseball field. The show is expected to last 20 minutes. This is free to the public, but donations are accepted. For more information call 870-995-1436.

FCA United will host its Annual Firework Celebration on Saturday, July 1, at 8:00 p.m. at Forrest City Sports Complex. There will be food, music and much more. The fireworks will start at 9:00 p.m. This is a free event.

Health Fair

Arkansas Minority Health Commission will host a Health Fair on Thursday, July 6, from 10:00-3:00 in the auditorium at UAMS East in Helena. Free health screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and BMI will be provided, as well as a free lunch. For more information call 501-683-4970.

East AR Anglers' Braggin' Board

To enter East AR Anglers' Braggin' Board you will need to submit a photo of you and your catch. All fish must be caught legally. The winner of this competition will get a Polaris Northstar 60-quart cooler. To submit photos you can take them by Times-Herald in Forrest City or e-mail them to addept@thnews.com. Please include your name, hometown and phone number when submitting your entry.

Diabetes Lunch-N-Learn

Forrest City Medical Center will host a Diabetes Lunch-N-Learn on Wednesday, July 12, from noon-1:30 p.m. at the In-Service Classroom. This program is not limited to those diagnosed with diabetes. Registration is required, and a light lunch will be served. For more information call 870-261-0444.

Sistas Support Group

Forrest City Public Library will have several special guests visit this summer during the Summer Reading Program.
--On Thursday, July 13, Magic Mr. Nick will re-visit the library.
--Mom & Pop will be there on Tuesday, July 25, to perform their musical act.
--For the finale, there will be a presentation from Woodruff on Thursday, July 27. Location for this event will be announced later.
--The Balloon Guy will visit. He tells all kinds of stories while using balloons as a visual aid. This program is TBA.

Organ Donation Lunch-N-Learn

Forrest City Medical Center will host an Organ Donation Lunch-N-Learn on Wednesday, July 19, starting at noon in the In-Service Classroom. Zola Burgess with Mid-South Transplant Foundation will be there talking about how to become an organ donor and how you can help save lives. Registration is required, and a light lunch will be served. Children's Theater Camp

EACC will present its 8th Annual Children's Theater Camp from July 24-28. This is for children entering 1st-12th grade.  Children must be available for rehearsal from 9:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Monday-Thursday and from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Friday. Their annual performance this year will be The Wizard of Oz, and it will be presented Friday, July 28, at 6:00 p.m. at the EACC Fine Arts Center. The fee for this camp is $69. Forrest City Summer Feeding Program

Forrest City School District is offering free meals to children up to 18 years old at its summer feeding sites from now until Friday, July 28. Summer Food Service Program

N.T.I.M.E. Spiritual Church is hosting a Summer Food Service Program from now until Monday, July 31, at the church, 507 North Division Street. Breakfast will be served from 9:00-10:00 a.m., and lunch will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Children five years and under must be accompanied by an adult, but all meals are free to children of the community. Lee County Summer Food Program

Lee County School District is offering free meals to children up to 18 years old at its summer feeding sites each weekday through Friday, August 4. Meals will be served at Anna Strong Learning Academy, 214 S. Alabama Street. 1st Annual Catfish Round-Up Tournament

Clarendon-Brinkley Lions Club will be throwing their 1st Annual Catfish Round-Up Tournament on Saturday, August 5th, at the White River. Launch will be at 7:00 a.m., with the weigh-in at noon. Early entry is $50 per boat and $60 the day of the tournament, two people per boat. There will also be a pot for the largest fish, it is $10 per fisherman to enter. Concessions will be served. Cash Homecoming Concert

Joanne and Tommy Cash will be a part of the concert line-up for the Johnny Cash Heritage Festival October 19-21. The live concert will be on Saturday, October 21, starting at 12:15 p.m. with Buddy Jewel, then Joanne and Tommy at 1:30 p.m., and Rosanne Cash and Kris Kristofferson at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.
